NORFOLK / HAMPTON ROADS AREA, VIRGINIA |

| The Hampton Roads area was merely a "pit stop" as were were just passing through on our way to the Williamsburg area. Upon visiting on a beautiful sunny afternoon, I wished we had more time to explore this scenic area. We took a 2 hour tour of the harbor aboard the American Rover, a medium-sized tall ship. It was an amazing way to see quite a bit in a short period of time. Our guide gave a wonderful narrative on the dozens of U.S. Navy vessels docked in the harbor. The Hampton Roads area is filled with museums and other family-oriented activities. Of particular note is Nauticus, a huge family-friendly museum focusing on marine technology and history. The battleship U.S.S. Wisconsin is permanently docked at Nauticus. The American Rover, Nauticus, a great shopping mall, plenty of dining and many other attractions are all located within walking distance of each other in the Norfolk City Center. The Hampton Roads area makes a great side trip as well as a delightful destination. | |||
