Minnesota State Route 61 and Wisconsin State Route 13 traverse the shores of Lake Superior's eastern tip through Duluth. The rugged shoreline and countryside is loaded with lighthouses, waterfalls, spectacular views and state parks. Wisconsin's Apostle Islands are a group of 22 islands off Wisconsin's northern shore. All but one of the islands (Madeline Island, the largest) are part of the Apostle Islands National Seashore. 18 of the 21 islands in the national seashore offer camping and public docking is available on most of the islands. Stockton Island contains North America's highest concentration of black bears. Boat tours of the Apostle Islands originate in Bayfield, a quaint, sleepy tourist town and headquarters for the Apostle Islands National Seashore. |
