This book, "Sink or Swim", by Horatio Alger, Junior was published by M.A. Donohue and Company. There is no date, but the writing on the first page indicates that it was given as a Christmas gift in 1933. Overall, it is in decent shape. All of the pages are intact, but the binding has begun to come loose. The top of the spine is also torn... about 3/4 of an inch. Although the pages have browned slightly with age, they are in excellent condition. The only writing or markings are found on the first page and on the inside of the back cover, where the owner put his name.

Over A Century Old!

This antique book, "Vendetta", by Marie Corelli was published by Hurst and Company of New York. There is no publishing date, however the writing on the first page indicates that it was given as a Christmas gift in 1902 and the preface is dated August, 1886. Overall, the book is in very good shape. All of the pages are intact, but there is a small (2mm X 10mm) insect boring on the lower edge of a few of the book's center pages. The binding is sturdy and in excellent condition. Although the pages have browned with age, they are in excellent condition. The only writing or markings are found on the first page, where the presenter wrote "Christmas 1902".

This edition of "The Life And Adventures Of Robinson Crusoe", by Daniel Defoe was published by Hurst and Company of New York. There is no date. My best guess is early 1930's. The cover reads "Arlington Edition". The spine reads "Robinson Crusoe" and "Arlington Edition". Overall, the book is in very good shape. All of the pages are intact, and the binding is sturdy and in excellent condition. Although the pages have browned with age, they are in excellent condition. The only writing or markings are found on the first page, where the owner stamped his name. This book features a biographical account of Daniel Defoe. Also of note are seven advertisements printed a few pages at the end of the book (e.g. "Amateur Amusements" and "How To Become a Clairvoyant")

This is an antique copy of Burbury Stoke by William John Hopkins. Here is some of the info that is printed on the first few pages... "Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston and New York... The Riverside Press, Cambridge, 1914... Copyright 1914, by William John Hopkins, All Rights Reserved, Published February 1914." Although the term "first edition" is not mentioned, I believe this is a first edition because no year other than 1914 is mentioned (I cannot guarantee this to be the case, as I am not particularly knowledgable about antique books). A sticker on the inside of the back cover indicates that the book was purchased at Brentano's Booksellers and Stationers in Washington, DC. On the cover and spine, the title, author and some illustration is gold-embossed. All in all, this book is in great shape. The spine is in good shape and all of the pages remain firmly bound. There is a tiny amount of writing in pencil on the inside front cover. Of course, the pages are slightly yellowed... but not much for a book of this age. The corners of the cover are slightly worn and there is just a small amount of grime on the cover.

1992 ALL-WORLD SPORTS

You are looking at a very attractive, rare and unusual card of the greatest running back ever, Jim Brown. The relatively obscure All-World Sports (AW Sports) Company released this beautiful set in 1992. Unfortunately, the scan does not do the card justice. It's in mint condition with 4 sharp corners and no visible flaws. It's printed on sturdy heavyweight stock and both the front and back are glossy. Although not evident in the photo, the name "Jim Brown" and the stars in the flag design are embossed with gold foil. Card will arrive safely in a hard top-loader. This is truly a super-looking card and a must-have for the Jim Brown completist.

NOLAN RYAN

This rare card is a must for the Nolan Ryan completist. The card was included in a 1990 issue of Baseball Cards magazine. Its cool retro look was designed in the style of the 1969 Topps set. Originally, this card was attached to two other cards. They were separated with scissors, but that fact is undetectable except under intense scrutiny. The cuts are straight and clean... and the edges and corners are sharp. The card is printed on good stock and the picture is of the quality of vintage Topps cards. Your card will arrive packed in a rigid toploader. Undoubtedly, you don't already own one of these exceedingly scarce cards... so don't miss this rare opportunity!

BETWEEN 3000 AND 4000 BASEBALL CARDS

I guarantee the inclusion of some superstars (see below). In addition, most of these cards haven't been thoroughly sorted in over 15 years... so this collection may likely contain some "buried treasure"... and the shipping is cheap!

These cards are all from the 1970's and 1980's, although about 90% are from the 80's. The following sets are represented:

Topps '75, 76, 77, 78, 79. 80, 82, 83, 85, 85, 86, and 88. Donruss 87 and 88. Fleer 87 and 88... and Fleer Star Stickers '88.

The United States Postal Service recently began a service called a "flat rate" Priority Mail box. They will ship anything you can cram into the flat rate box for just $7.70 to anywhere in the United States, regardless of weight... and regardless of location. I have packed about 14 pounds of cards into one of these flat rate boxes. Previously, it would have cost $26.05 to ship a 14 pound Priority Mail box to Los Angeles (for example) from my Ohio location. With the flat rate box, it's just $7.70 to L.A., Alaska, Hawaii and anywhere else in the U.S.

These cards are in great condition. Most are just like they were right from the pack.

As mentioned, this package will include at least one card of each of the following superstars... Nolan Ryan, Roger Clemens, Ozzie Smith, Rickey Henderson, Carlton Fisk, Wade Boggs, Don Mattingly, Phil Niekro, Ron Guidry, Tony Gwynn, Greg Luzinski, Dave Winfield, Sparky Anderson and Andre Dawson. These cards will be packaged together in a separate envelope, so you won't have to dig for them.

These cards are in great condition. Most are just like they were right from the pack. The winner of this auction will receive between 3000 and 4000 cards. I did not count them. That is my best estimate. The winner will receive the 10 or so superstar cards pictured and described. Most (not all) of the other cards are commons, but some are from scarcer sets from the 70's. The cards will be shipped in a 11 7/8 inch X 3 3/8 inch X 13 5/8 inch Priority Mail Box. The cards are stacked within the box and the box is completely full except for a bit of newspaper for padding. I began with a collection of about a half-million cards. I'm not as interested in the hobby as I used to be and the cards are taking up a great deal of space. I intend to sell most of them off one chunk at a time.
